We pass the Dong Loc intersection, (main junction for supply lines during the war) which is widely regarded in Vietnamese eyes as the beginning of Ho Chi Minh route. Then we pass through remote back country, near the border, as the scenery steadily becomes dominated by rock formations of limestone karst. We pass two famous intersections where until 1972 most of the traffic on the route happened in Laos. In the afternoon we arrived at the World Heritage site of Phong Nha where local civilians and military protected from incessant bombing during the war. Then we go to the coastal town of Hoi doing, which was heavily bombed by U. S. warships during the war. In a hotel overlooking the beach, we can take in some sunbathing on the beach. Overnight in Dong Hoi. (B, L, D) Day 5: Dong Hoi - Khe Sanh, to strike south through foothills which were once sprayed heavily by Agent orange beach cruiser bike towards the former DMZ. There is still much evidence of bombing on the side of the mountain and occasionally we'll see remnants of the original route. We take in the famous Hien Luong Bridge (former demarcation between North and South Vietnam, Khe Sanh (former U. S.
